Charging a Volvo EV

Charging a Volvo EV is a simple and straightforward process, not all that different than filling your vehicle up with gas. At Volvo Cars Gilbert, we understand that the transition to EV driving can feel a little overwhelming. That’s why we’re sharing everything you need to know about EV ownership, including a closer look at your charging options.

Level 1 Charging

Level 1 charging is the type of charging that’s already available in your home—without the addition or installation of any other charging infrastructure. It does have a relatively low power output, however. That’s why Level 1 charging is typically reserved for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, or PHEVs.

Level 2 Charging

You’ll likely use Level 2 charging most of the time. Level 2 charging is available at home with the installation of a simple charging station, as well as at all public charging stations. While it may be a little slower charging your vehicle than other public charging options, that can actually help to reduce strain on your battery over time.

DC Fast Charging

Level 3, or DC Fast Charging, is the fastest and most efficient charging option. Because the power output is so high, domestic electric systems are not equipped for this form of charging, but you will find it at public charging stations. Volvo EVs can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in as little as 28 minutes using DC fast charging.
